How to Become or Renew as a Notary

Becoming a notary is an admirable goal as they fill a particular need for the public and businesses alike. It is a straightforward process that contains several basic steps.

At Notary Bonding, we’ve been serving notaries for over 80 years, and we’re going to tell you here how to become or renew as a notary. We’ll provide a general overview as details vary from state to state.

Once you’ve decided to start a notary career, your first step is to find the applicable information about the role and then prepare for the application test. The information you need is usually contained in a downloadable PDF.

When you’ve completed the test and application, you need to have an oath of office administered by a notary. Then, send in your oath, and you will receive a Certificate of Authorization that you can take to a vendor for your stamp and notary package.

Notary public commissions are not automatically renewed, so you need to reapply for a new one, and should do so before your current commission expires. The process is very similar to becoming a new notary.

Remember that when you want to learn how to become or renew as a notary, it’s easy to find the information you need on your state’s website. Once you get your commission, then all you need is a stamp and journal, and you can begin practicing right away.
