How to Become a Notary in Texas
Make Sure You’re Eligible
Notaries public in the state of Texas must be a legal resident of Texas and at least 18 years old. Furthermore, they must have no criminal convictions or felonies on their record.
Complete an Application and Acquire the Right Resources
The next step is to fill out and submit a state-approved application. Texas also requires a $21 application fee and a 4-year $10,000 notary bond. That second part might seem intimidating, but a 4-year $10,000 notary bond typically costs just $50.
Once you receive your Texas notary commission, purchase your notary supplies. These should include a stamp and record book, at minimum. You’ll also need to take the oath of office, which will be sent to you once the state approves you.
