FAQs About Texas Notary Supplies

Am I required to have a notary stamp or notary seal embosser?

As a Texas notary, you are required by law to use a seal of office when authenticating your acts. In accordance with Tex. Gov Ann. 406.013, this seal can be created via stamping, embossing, or printing. Most notaries use an inked rubber stamp seal. If you choose a notary seal embosser, you must ensure it can be photographically reproduced.

May I own more than one notary stamp?

You may own as many notary supplies as you prefer. Be sure to order them from trusted sources that guarantee they meet all of the requirements outlined by state law.

What should I do if I lose my Texas notary stamp?

Note the last time the notary stamp was used by you in an official capacity and notify the Secretary of State immediately. You may order a new Texas notary stamp to replace your missing one, but you must report the loss.

My employer kept my stamp and journal. Is that allowed?

No, stamps, journals, and similar notary supplies are the property of the notary they were issued to and no one else. Your employer has no legal right to keep these, even if they paid for your commission. If they attempt to keep your items, report it to the Secretary of State.
